Advanced Trade Skill Window

37 - Inscription memory leak

Submitted Via

Curse Client 4.0.1.58, Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3

Installed Version

v0.7.8

Description

This seems to be a major memory leak, but only happens with Inscription. It lags the game out for a few dozen seconds, threatening to disconnect the user. Sometimes it does in fact disconnect you.

Steps to Reproduce

Simply open Inscription, or try to craft any item with Inscription.

    @utkuerd: Go

having the same issues utkuerd. it's disappointing, as ATSW has been such an absolute gem, i can't think of using the default blizzard ui. i have played with all the settings and found similar results, and as you pointed out, disabling such features basically makes it useless (i know, i know... not entirely).

i'm just not sure how much more i can take with the freezes and slowdowns, but i will, since it is SO fantastic - just flawed and probably out-of-date (in terms of wow's latest changes to take advantage of).

i can only pray that you, Slartibartfast, you wonderful author, will create a new ATSW from the ground up. thank you so much!

I think this is a design issue, more than a bug.

Since inks are buyable (by exchanging then with blackfallow ink) most inscription recipes have all buyable ingredients. With or without the memory leak, this renders the AWST useless for inscription, since AWST gets crazy with such recipes (it is not possible to come up with a number of productable items).

My easy-to-come-up suggestion is to keep exchangable items out of the buyable items list. This way AWST works fine with inscription as it works with any other profession. Only drawback, exchanging blackfallow ink with any necessary ingredient is ignored while calculating the totals.

My hard-to-com-up suggestion is to seperate buyable and exchangeable items. One can buy any number of buyable items as long as he has enough gold. However one can only get a limited number of exchangable items, since currency will also require some farming. This way by adding a "consider exchangeable items when calculating the number of productable items" all problems are solved. Of couse this option should work different from the similar option about buyable items.

I'll try to post patches for both versions if I have time.

Skelgaard, I will try that, but that defeats the purpose of ATSW buying items like parchment.

if you untick "consider buyable items when calculating the number of productable items" it will work just fine...
