44 - Track future mail resulting from auctions

Use case: I post an auction from an alt I rarely play. I forget that the auction is outstanding and never collect the resulting mail, which could be either the expired item or the resulting money. I need to be reminded to check that mailbox as part of the normal mail expiration warning.

Proposed solution: Create a dummy mail object when posting an auction that represents an unknown auction result. Remember the auction duration in the dummy object. When the duration expires and the mailbox is next visited, remove the dummy object from the DB. The object is only used in the mail contents page and the Activity report for purposes of reminding one of mail about to expire. It doesn't appear in search results.

I just started to implement support for return mails, so I'll see what can be done with regards to warnings. I'm still polishing the calendar features, so this will come in a way or another :)

I woke in the middle of the night with an idea for this (isn't that the best time?)

How about a general "you haven't checked the mail on this toon in 25 days" timer? That would cover everything, auctions, bounced mail and mail from friends as well that the add-on wouldn't even begin to be able to track. Even if the the bounce came from a non tracked account, the bounce sits for 30 days (if I remember correctly).

That's something I intend to do, although I don't know yet which form it will take. The timer features added to support the calendar will allow me to extend certain features, including this one. Accepted.

It occurs to me that a similar system for checking for auto-bounced mail would be good, but I don't have any good ideas on how to decide when to check. If the recipient is one's own character, then the mechanism is already there, I think. But if the recipient is another account not tracked, one might receive the bounce any time from immediately to 30 days later, and the expiration timer starts at that time.
