18 - Support Diminishing Returns on Avoidance
Not sure if this is already in, since I'm at home and can't login to the game, but it seems like the sort of thing that's easy to miss.
As of 4.x, both dodge and parry have identical item budget cost per %, so all things being equal, parry has equal value to dodge.
However, both dodge and parry have diminishing returns, so you want to keep your dodge/parry ratings roughly equal.
For example, if you're looking to reforge to avoidance on a character with 1200 dodge rating and 1000 parry rating, you would reforge to parry, not dodge.
Similarly, if you were looking to reforge to (for example) mastery on that same character, you would reforge the dodge to mastery, not the parry. Each point of dodge is less valuable as you have more of it.

The reason I feel that this is important is because tanks get parry rating from strength and not dodge rating so both Kings and Horn of Winter (or similar buffs) will increase parry rating and it will be different depending on how much strength you already have. Another way to solve this issue is to have a feature that allows the user to select different raid buffs to be accounted for in the calculations but I'll talk about that possibility in another ticket.

This is all academic, since I would never argue against a feature in an addon. I just question the theorycraft supporting your conclusion.

Well yeah, for the addon it's not the same rating amount.

schizo Dec 21, 2010 at 02:27 UTC - 0 likesI suppose, although I question if the theorycrafting behind that is sound. According to the EJ thread elemental prefers haste to mastery, but there might be some fine point or threshold where haste loses value that I'm not aware of.

Spriest would likely use it for Crit/Haste.
