Ripped

1 - Support for Deathknights

Dashkal: My rotation will be: icy/plague/HS/HS/DS/DC/icy/plague/HS/HS/HS/HS :p
[02:25am] smcn:
Dashkal: i'm pretty sure it's 2s just from my own observations, it seems to be slightly longer than GCD
[02:26am] Dashkal:
I wasn't sure if it was 1.5 or 2s given I spend so much time in unholy
[02:26am] smcn:
Dashkal: same :p
[02:26am] smcn:
on both counts^ lol
[02:26am] Dashkal:
blood aura heals just as much as blood presense, and I like the extra GCDs in the 10s cycle to account for parry/miss/etc
[02:27am] smcn:
i've been playing in blood recently, just because seeing 1400 max white damage on my character screen with blood gorged and bloody vengeance makes me warm :p
[02:27am] njal:
smcn: so to get back to your question: it probably will be a tad harder to create strategies for deathknights, but not by much, but as I said, I'll have to model the rune power and rune regen (where the heck do I find update APIs)?

[02:27am] Dashkal:
Good luck handling a DK when dodge/parry/miss issues put the DK over the 10s cycle mark
[02:28am] Dashkal:
I tend to just skip the oblit and start over
[02:28am] njal:
Dashkal: stuff like that is usually stuff state machines excel at
[02:28am] Dashkal:
It's a preference thing.  I could also just continue as though nothing was wrong
[02:29am] Dashkal:
The real time limit on oblit is when the diseases fall off, not the 10s master cycle
[02:29am] Dashkal:
which is either 12s or something larger if you take the unholy talent
[02:32am] njal:
hmm
[02:32am] njal:
HS = ?
[02:32am] smcn:
njal: if you mean the events for when something rune/RP related happens, they're RUNE_POWER_UPDATE, RUNE_TYPE_UPDATE, and UNIT_RUNIC_POWER
[02:33am] smcn:
njal: heart strike, a talented replacement for blood strike in the blood tree
[02:33am] njal:
whats DS and DC?
[02:34am] Dashkal:
Death Strike, Death Coil
[02:35am] Dashkal:
each rune use is +10 runic power, so by the time I get to the DC I have just over enough runic power to cast one.  If Runic Strike procs (If I've had a white crit) I hit that as well before the icy after it
[02:35am] njal:
why are you including death coil in the rotation?
[02:35am] Dashkal:
after I've done my death strike, I have about 4 seconds of downtime.  I have runic power, but no runes left
[02:36am] Dashkal:
the actual downtime varies based on how long between when I did the first icy and when I do the death strike.  Unholy presense makes that faster, misses, dodges, and parries make it slower
[02:36am] Dashkal:
I usually have time for two abilities before starting the cycle over
[02:37am] Dashkal:
oh: for my rotation specifically it depends on death rune mastery.  DRM makes death strike (which uses one frost, one holy) return those two runes 10 seconds later as death runes (wildcards) which I use for extra heart strikes the next rotation
[02:37am] njal:
and the reason for doing icy touch again is because the debuff is running out?
[02:38am] njal:
or rune coming up again?
[02:38am] smcn:
generally you want to use RP abilities when all your runes are down, because the biggest key to high dps is keeping runes on constant cooldown. however you potentially lose DPS if you use a rune ability when you're already at max RP
[02:38am] Dashkal:
yes.  frost fever (the debuff icy touch applies) has a 12s duration untalented
[02:39am] Dashkal:
the rune comes back 10s later
[02:39am] Dashkal:
smcn brings up another issue.  I will throw the odd death coil right into the middle of a rotation to dump some runic power
[02:40am] Dashkal:
but I try to keep my RP down by spamming death coil at the end of a rotation so that isn't often an issue
[02:40am] Dashkal:
sudden doom + 80 rp -> three death coils at the end of a rotation for me
[02:41am] Dashkal:
if I'm in blood presense, that will run me twelve seconds for the whole thing.  My first runes will have come up already, and icy touch will expire

Dashkal:
njal, Here's a more generic (and simpler) blood rotation: icy/plague/heart/heart/oblit/deathcoil/deathcoil
