If you go into the standard Blizzard Interface options, and look under the "Help" category, there's an item labeled, "Display LUA Errors". Turning that on will report LUA errors.
I haven't heard of your particular issue, but it does sound a little bit like another addon might be conflicting. Isolating Tidy Plates (turning off all other addons, except for TidyPlates, TidyPlates_Graphite, and TidyPlatesHub) can tell you if the problem is internal, or caused by a conflict.

First of all, just wanted to mention that TidyPlates must be one of the best addons in WoW - it just makes the game look so much better. Unfortunately, I seem to be having a problem when every now and again I'd look at the screen, and notice that I have the normal name bars. Sometimes, a normal options reset is enough to bring them back, sometimes they come back for only a few seconds, but usually I need to shift+click the reset button to reload the addon.
Is this some compatibility issue? I'm not packed with that many addons, and I'd like to know what could be some of the reasons for it to crash, or how I can try and figure it out (some sort of error log)?
