Curse Client 4.0 Sneak Peak (updated July 24)

The development team here at Curse has been hard at work on the Curse Client 4.0.

Crunch Gear was given a sneak peak at the newest alpha client, 4.0. It's been entirely rewritten to optimize performance, speed, and usability. Of course it's going to pack in some new features as well. It's only in Alpha so we can only share this screen shot of the updated UI.

I (Kaelten) also wanted to take the opportunity to post a screenshot of our upcoming mac client. Our mac users are important to us, and as a result most of my time has been monopolized by working on the new v4 Mac client. It's a completely native Cocoa app targeting 10.4 and will run on both intel and PPC macs. It's not as far along feature wise as the windows client, but again, I did want to make sure people know that it is actively being worked on.

For clarification the Windows one is the dark one, where the mac client is the silver one.

Mac Update 7/24

I just updated with an extra screenshot from today's alpha release. So please check it out. I hope you guys agree it's starting to come together. :)

Well, finally something that can be looked at with interest.

From the UI it does look like you indeed are doing a good job. Congratulations.

+1 on Nuckin08 request, the columns about the WOW version an addon is built for and last update are quite interesting to have.

But I'm sure you can customize the column view… right? ;)

Let's hope the code now is up to the UI!

Two things I would love to see Curse Client show in the column list is "Game Version" and "Last Updated".

    Just an honest request :)

Please be sure to add support for new Warhammer Online Mac ...

EA/Mythic just release their beta for the Warhammer Online Mac game client .. but sadly the Mac CURSE client lacks support for the Mac Warhammer game client..

    Thanks..

if you need more info on the new Mac Warhammer client..

For the mac client, it would flow well if the space at the left hand side could be used for the addon categories . i.e. under "Find new addons" show all the addon categories, and then allow clicking of the one you want to filter the results. This would then use up the current "wasted" space of that left hand panel, and make user selection much easier.

Additionally, if the game in that left hand panel was clickable, you could then get rid of the two controls in the panel above the search results, and just leave "Search" .

Regarding the new Mac screenshot, I think that the "game" and "addon category" dropdowns should be placed at the bottom of the window, and not at the top, near the search input. Just a visual enhancement, but I think it would make much more sense in the Mac environment.

Kaelten says that the issue I mentioned will not be carried over to v4: http://forums.wowace.com/showpost.php?p=283458&postcount=1399
