669 - Account-wide preferences
Since Pandaria made accounts go account-wide, would it be possible to set up a feature that applies GoGoMount settings to all/multiple characters? Currently I just copy my settings from one character to the rest in the files, which works out fine, but I need to do it every time I alter my settings if I want it to apply to all characters. It would be awesome if it could work for all of them.

I'm working on rewriting a major portion of GoGoMount. One of the sections is around the GUI options to collapse the 4 different option windows into 1, add searching capabilities and account-wide options.
I'm also designing a different way to store the information to make it cleaner.
The current plan is to release something before the next major Warcraft patch (7.1) but it could be sooner or later, depending on time, testing, etc.

oscarucb Feb 07, 2014 at 04:46 UTC - 0 likesThe standard way to handle this problem is with the AceDB library, which lets you store all addon settings within a "profile". The user then has the ability to use the same centralized profile for multiple characters, or use a separate profile for each toon as they desire.
This is notably better than the "template copy" proposal tiker mentioned, because it allows users to have a truly centralized account-wide profile that all characters can use and update, without requiring copies back and forth every time you change a setting.

Only have a handful of mounts I actually want to use, on any character, and having the option to just chose Default for instance, and it'll all be same on the characters I do this on, would be a .. well if not a life saver, at least time saver.

Setup preferences, excluded mounts, preferred mounts, etc.
Press a button that says "Export to template".
Log on next character.
Press button that says "Import from template".
Everything should be set.
GoGoMount already contains code to remove mounts set as preferences which characters can't use such as engineering mounts without engineering skill.

Having preferences account wide for everyone won't be good for those who like separate groups of mounts for different characters like myself.
I've been thinking of a way to add an option to copy settings from a character or some sort of option to create "template" set of settings which can be imported for each character but I haven't quite determined how I'm going to do it yet.
