Sunn - Viewport Art

37 - Vertical Viewport

Go to a zone with water in it and fly over the water.  An invisible cut out of you (and zeppelins coincidentally) will appear just below you making any water appearing inside the cut out transparent (only effects the water, make the land under the water the only thing you see inside the cut out).
Sun - Viewport Art v3.61
Turning off the vertical viewport fixes it (just like it did in Uldum and Throne of Tides).

I have looked into this a bit further and found that it also affects SSAO (screen space ambient occlusion). It appears as displaced shadows (or black glow) on the side that viewport resizing is enabled on.

Again, there is nothing that can be done with an addon but i've updated SunnArt to display relevant messages when settings are selected that cause problems and removed the old water bug fix because it now happens in all zones instead of just one or two.

The best fix is still to use DX11 mode if possible. Failing that, Setting Liquid Detail to fair and SSAO to disabled has the least impact on graphics quality. Setting Multisampling to x1 also fixes it but looks ugly.

I'm not sure how Mac users are affected. Any info would be useful.

It's effecting all zones with water - Wetlands, Stormwind City, Vash'jir, ect. If there is water it does it. Multisampling set to x1 makes it so I can't see half the textures in the game (probably due to the faulty coding) but you are right it does seem to resolve this particular problem. Liquid detail set to fair and disabling the viewport also work. I'll have to stick to making the water crappy (not that I really care about what water looks like) until Blizzard adjusts their code or Christmas when I get a new computer! I'll see if I can get DX11 but I don't know if Windows XP can handle that.

It looks like the old problem is back, maybe it's been there all along but nobody goes to Stranglethorn any more :) It used to affect DirectX 11 only, but now it seems to affect DirectX 9 only.

Fortunately, you can make this work by doing any one of the following:

    • Switch to DirectX 11 mode

    • Set Multisampling (MSAA) to x1

    • Set Water Quality to "Fair"

    • Disable the Vertical or Horizontal viewport resizing, whichever you have enabled.

Unfortunately there's nothing else that can be done with an addon, it's a bug in the game code. I can, however, add the problem zones to the "badzonefix" feature in the addon which will disable the viewport resizing in areas that have this bug. It may take some time to get a full list of zones though.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Let me know if you find any other places.

Happened in Northern Stranglethorn by the sea. I turned the viewport off after that but I'll do some checking to see if I can't get it to do it over any water.

In which zones have you seen this happen?
